An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N178AA performing flight AA-1357 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to San Juan (Puerto Rico) with 182 people on board, was climbing out of New York when the crew stopped the climb at FL200 reporting a navigation equipment failure and advised they would return to Kennedy Airport for an overweight landing. The aircraft landed safely on runway 22R about 30 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was able to depart again after 2.5 hours on the ground and is estimated to reach San Juan with a delay of 2:40 hours.
