A Fedex Federal Express McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter, registration N586FE performing flight FX-147 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Memphis,TN (USA) with 2 crew, was climbing through 10,000 feet when the crew received an indication for the U/L reverser #1 engine (CF6, left hand) accompanied by vibrations. The crew worked the related checklists, shut the engine down, declared Mayday and returned to Toronto for a safe landing about 35 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found the #1 thrust reverser outboard center drive unit brake handle not stowed. The handle was restowed.
