An Air India Airbus A320-200, registration VT-EDE performing flight AI-530 from Kolkata to Hyderabad (India) with 146 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Kolkata's runway 01R when the crew stopped the climb at about 2000 feet and returned to Kolkata for a safe landing on runway 19L about 10 minutes after departure.

A replacement A319-100 registration VT-SCB reached Hyderabad with a delay of about 3 hours.

India's media reported India's Chief Justice was on board of the aircraft.

While official channels do not clarify the technical problems reported so far, The Aviation Herald hears through inofficial channels a thrust reverser indication (engine CFM56) had occurred.
