Jazz DH8D at Toronto on Mar 3rd 2020, crew corrects ATC operational error

A Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-GGNW performing flighht QK-8949 from Saint John,NB to Toronto,ON (Canada), had landed on Toronto's runway 24L and was instructed by tower to turn onto taxiway D2 and cross runway 24R.

At the same time an Air Canada Embraer ERJ-190, registration C-FMZB performing flight AC-462 from Toronto,ON to Ottawa,ON (Canada) with 78 people on board, had been cleared for takeoff from runway 24R and was accelerating for takeoff.

When the Dash 8 crew neared the hold short line for runway 24R they observed the Embraer on their takeoff roll passing in front of them, stopped before the hold short line and inquired with Tower.

The Embraer continued to destination without further incident, the Dash 8 continued taxi after the Embraer had departed.

Canada's TSB reported NAV Canada is conducting an internal investigation.
