India's DGCA reported the engine suffered the failure of the 3rd stage of the low pressure turbine and was shut down. The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated.
India's DGCA reported in an update on Jan 13th 2020 related to the Indigo occurrences and engine issues, that the engine manufacturer has identified the fracture of the Mid Turbine Frame (MTF) Piston Seal contributes to 50% of Low Pressure Turbine Events. On Dec 16th 2019 the engine manufacturer therefore release a service bulletin to provide inspection criteria for wear on the piston seal. The repeat inspection of the piston seal on engine having unmodified parts is deemed effective in identifying and removing engines from the wing before they fail. The DGCA have mandated Indigo to replace all unmodified engines at the latest by May 31st 2020. (The update does not mention GoAir, but likely is relevant to GoAir as to Indigo and other operators of PW112xG engines).
