A SunExpress Deutschland Boeing 737-800, registration D-ASXE performing flight XG-1620 from Gaziantep (Turkey) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) with 80 passengers and 6 crew, was descending through FL200 towards Frankfurt when the aircraft experienced turbulence causing injuries to a flight attendant. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Frankfurt's (newest) runway 07L.

Germany's BFU reported in their monthly bulletin that the flight attendant received serious injuries as result of turbulence during the descent towards Frankfurt.

In a separately released final report in German, that the BFU concluded without conclusion, the BFU stated that the flight crew in anticipation of expected turbulence had turned the fasten seat belt signs on, the flight attendants were checking whether the passengers had fastened their seat belts and were moving towards their seats, when the aircraft descended through FL200 near Nuremberg (Germany) and encountered two jolts with the second producing a vertical acceleration of -0.15G. A flight attendant, who had just sat down at the seat near the right hand aft door at the aft galley but had not yet secured her seat belt, lifted off the seat, the seat retracted, and the flight attendant fell to the floor receiving a fracture of her right thigh. Other flight attendants provided first aid and secured the injured collegue.

In the area of Nuremberg there were isolated thunderstorm cells with strong up- and downdrafts spanning from FL050 to FL380. The airport of Nuremberg had issued a SIGMET warning of isolated thunderstorms, winds gusting to 30 knots and hail between 09:30Z and 12:00Z.
