A Sunexpress Deutschland Boeing 737-800, registration D-ASXJ performing flight XG-4665 from Nuremberg (Germany) to Hurghada (Egypt), was climbing out of Nuremberg when the crew stopped the climb at about FL270 reporting smoke in the cockpit and diverted to Munich (Germany) for a safe landing on runway 26R about 30 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Munich about 13 hours after landing.

The flight was cancelled as was the return flight XG-4824 to Cologne (Germany).

On Jan 7th 2019 The Aviation Herald learned the source of the smoke was an aft galley oven, a fire extinguisher was discharged into the oven.

Although the rotation was officially declared cancelled, the occurrence aircraft departed for Hurghada about 14 hours after landing in Munich and reached Hurghada with a delay of about 14 hours. The aircraft subsequently remained on the ground in Hurghada for about 14 hours, then positioned to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) for maintenance.
