An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N997NN performing flight AA-1060 from Miami,FL to Newark,NJ (USA) with 149 passengers and 5 crew, was climbing out of Miami's runway 26L when the crew declared emergency reporting smoke in the cabin and stopped the climb at about 8000 feet. The aircraft returned to Miami for a safe landing on runway 27 about 20 minutes after departure.

All crew, both pilots and the three flight attendants, requested a medical check up at the airport, one of the flight attendants was taken to a hospital for further examination.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N810NN reached Newark with a delay of 4.5 hours.
