A Commutair Embraer ERJ-145 on behalf of United, registration N14143 performing flight UA-4949 from Greenville,SC to Newark,NJ (USA) with 40 people on board, was climbing out of Greenville when the crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet due to the activation of a smoke detector. The aircraft returned to Greenville for a safe landing about 12 minutes after departure. Attending emergency services did not find any trace of fire, heat or smoke.

The aircraft was able to depart again after about 3 hours on the ground and reached Newark with a delay of 2:40 hours.
