An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N635AA performing flight AA-685 from Boston,MA to Miami,FL (USA), was enroute at FL360 about 75nm east of New York's JFK Airport, when a passenger seat row came loose. The crew decided to divert to New York for a safe landing on JFK's runway 31L about 40 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 reached Miami with a delay of 4:15 hours.

The airline confirmed the incident stating the three passengers seated in those seats were reseated. The occurrence is being investigated.

The FAA is investigating.
