A Westjet Boeing 737-800, registration C-GKWJ performing flight WS-1100 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Los Angeles,CA (USA) with 174 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 140nm northwest of Albuquerque,NM (USA) when the crew noticed smoke coming out of the radio control panel, worked the related checklist, consulted with maintenance and decided to divert to Albuquerque. The crew declared PAN PAN and landed safely on Albuquerque's runway 08 about 30 minutes after the decision to divert.

The Canadian TSB reported the smoke was caused by an accidental liquid spill on the communication panel. The panel was replaced.
