An AirAsia Airbus A320-200, registration 9M-AJT performing flight AK-10 from Chennai (India) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) with 168 people on board, was accelerating for takeoff from Chennai when the left hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird prompting the crew to reject takeoff at low speed. The aircraft slowed safely and returned to the apron.

A number of fan blades were found damaged. Spare parts were flown to Chennai, the engine was repaired.

The aircraft was able to depart Chennai with a delay of about 20 hours.
