An Allegiant McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration N877GA performing flight G4-977 from Asheville,NC to Punta Gorda,FL (USA) with 146 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL340 about 150nm north of St. Petersburg,FL (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Sarasota,FL (USA, about 180nm south of their position) reporting some abnormal indications. The crew subsequently decided to divert to St. Petersburg. While on final approach to St. Petersburg's runway 36R the crew requested to make a 360 to read a checklist, then in the left 360 declared emergency reporting they had flight control indications though they believed it was just a sensor. The aircraft landed safely on St. Petersburg's runway 36R about 5 minutes after declaring emergency and taxied to the apron.

A replacement MD-83 registration N863GA reached Punta Gorda with a delay of 3:45 hours.
