An AirAsia India Airbus A320-200, registration VT-ATF performing flight I5-541 from Ranchi to Delhi (India), was accelerating for takeoff from Ranchi when the right hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird causing the engine to emit a series of bangs and sparks and prompting the crew to reject takeoff at high speed. The aircraft slowed safely and returned to the apron.

The airline confirmed a bird strike.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration VT-ATB reached Delhi with a delay of 6:15 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Ranchi 40 hours after the rejected takeoff.
