A Republic Airlines Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of US Airways, registration N134HQ performing flight YX-3133/US-3133 from Philadelphia,PA to Jacksonville,FL (USA) with 72 passengers and 4 crew, encountered turbulence during the initial descent through about FL280 at about 13:12Z resulting in a serious injury on board. The aircraft continued to Jacksonville for a safe landing.

The FAA wrote they received the report of the accident on Aug 20th, 15 days later.

On Aug 28th 2012 the NTSB reported that the captain had anticipated turbulence during the descent towards Jacksonville and thus illuminated the fasten seat belt sign at the top of descent. During the descent the aircraft encounted what the captain later described as a pocket of light to moderate turbulence, which lasted for about 2-3 seconds, the remainder of the flight was smooth. About one minute after the turbulence encounter cabin crew informed the flight deck that a female passenger, who had gotten up after the fasten seat belt sign was illuminated and the fasten seat belt sign announcement had been made, was injured. The flight crew requested medical services to meet the aircraft upon arrival, the injured was taken to a hospital. The NTSB added the patient received a serious injury. A relative travelling with the patient said they had heard the fasten seat belt announcement and thought it was because the aircraft was close to destination and not because of weather conditions, the patient got up to walk to the lavatory but received injuries in the turbulence encounter.

On May 10th 2013 the NTSB released their final report concluding the probable cause of the accident was:

The passenger’s failure to adhere to flight and cabin crewmembers’ instructions to remain seated in anticipation of adverse weather and turbulence along the airplane’s flight path.
