Thomas Cook A320 near Faro on Apr 12th 2017, hot tea spilled over girl

A Thomas Cook Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration OO-TCW performing flight HQ-1647 from Las Palmas,CI (Spain) to Brussels (Belgium), was enroute at FL360 about 90nm southwest of Faro (Portugal) when the crew decided to divert to Faro after hot tea had been spilled over a girl (9) causing second degree burns to her legs. The aircraft landed safely in Faro, the girl and her family were taken to a hospital.

The aircraft continued to Brussels after about 80 minutes on the ground and reached Brussels with a a total delay of 100 minutes.

The family reported on Apr 15th 2017 the girl is already at home and recovering fine without any permanent injuries after initially suffering a lot of pain. The family questioned the use of piping hot fluids on board of aircraft where the environment is unstable and the aircraft may do unexpected movements any time. The family announced however no legal action will be taken.

Belgian Media report that the hot tea was spilled by a flight attendant, witnesses on board of the aircraft reported however no flight attendant was involved in the accident but a family member of the girl.
