A Thomas Cook Airlines Boeing 757-300, registration G-JMAB performing flight MT-1002 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Arrecife,CI (Spain) with 284 people on board, had been enroute at FL350 and was descending towards Lanzarote/Arrecife when the crew received indication of the failure of one of the engines (RB211), declared emergency, shut the engine down and continued to Arrecife for a safe landing. The aircraft vacated the runway, stopped on the parallel taxiway for an inspection by emergency services and taxied to the stand. Emergency services inspected the left hand engine.
