An Air New Zealand Airbus A320-200, registration ZK-OJA performing flight NZ-703 from Auckland (New Zealand) to Sydney,NS (Australia), was enroute at FL340 about 50 minutes into the flight when the crew decided to return to Auckland due to an air conditioning fault as result of a bleed air fault (engines V2527). The aircraft maintained FL340 on the way back and landed safely on Auckland's runway 23L about 110 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the crew opted to switch the air conditioning to an auxiliary system which would have consumed more fuel. Being unsure of having sufficient fuel on board to complete the journey with the increased fuel consumption the crew opted to return to Auckland.
