An Air New Zealand Airbus A320-200, registration ZK-OXA performing flight NZ-538 from Christchurch to Auckland (New Zealand), was climbing out of Christchurch's runway 20 when the crew could not retract the landing gear and levelled of at 7000 feet. The aircraft returned to Christchurch for a safe landing landing on runway 20 about 35 minutes after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration ZK-OXJ reached Auckland with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Christchurch about 23 hours after landing back.
