A LGW Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter de Havilland Dash 8-400 on behalf of Air Berlin, registration D-ABQB performing flight AB-6479 from Saarbruecken to Berlin Tegel (Germany) with 45 passengers and 4 crew, was enroute at FL230 about 95nm northnorthwest of Nuremberg (Germany) when the crew noticed a problem with the right hand engine (PW150), decided to divert to Nuremberg and turned south maintaining FL230. About 55nm northnorthwest of Nuremberg the crew needed to shut the engine down and continued to Nuremberg for a safe landing on Nuremberg's runway 10 about 25 minutes after turning south and about 15 minutes after shutting the engine down.

The airline reported the crew noticed a problem with one of the engines, diverted to Nuremberg and subsequently decided to shut the engine down as a precaution.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

In the evening of Jan 11th 2017 The Aviation Herald received information that the engine was shut down due to (slight) propeller overspeed.
