The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
A passenger reported the flight had already been delayed before departure, the captain announced there had been a problem with a de-icing system. Shortly after becoming airborne the air conditioning system became audible, a smell of burning rubber developed in the cabin. The noise from the air conditioning system stopped, the captain announced there had been an odour, the odour dissipated and they were returning to Dusseldorf.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Dusseldorf for about 10.5 hours, then returned to service.
