An American Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration N271AY performing flight AA-728 from Philadelphia,PA (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was on final approach to Heathrow's runway 27L when the crew initiated a go-around due to an unsafe indication for the nose gear. The crew worked the related checklists performing an alternate (gravity) extension of the landing gear, which resulted in a safe indication for all gear. The aircraft landed safely on runway 27L about 15 minutes after the go-around, but needed to be towed off the runway due to lack of nose wheel steering as result of the alternate gear extension.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in London about 13 hours after landing.
