A LGW Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter de Havilland Dash 8-400 on behalf of Air Berlin, registration D-ABQR performing flight AB-6838 from Dusseldorf to Stuttgart (Germany) with 33 passengers and 4 crew, was on final approach to Stuttgart's runway 07 when the crew went around reporting an unsafe left main gear indication. The aircraft entered a hold while the crew was working the checklists and using alternate gear extension trying to resolve the gear indication. After an hour in the hold the crew shut the left hand engine (PW150) down and commenced a safe landing on runway 07 about 70 minutes after the go-around. The aircraft was towed to the apron.

A planespotter reported the #1 engine was shut down when the aircraft landed.

The airline reported that the left main gear indicated unsafe (not locked down), the indication continued even after the crew performed an alternate gear extension (gravity extension), the crew therefore shut the left hand engine down as a safety measure.
