An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N878NN performing flight AA-2594 from San Francisco,CA to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), departed San Francisco's runway 01R and was in the initial climb when the crew reported numerous small birds had impacted the aircraft upon rotation just at the crossing runways. In the absence of any abnormal indications the crew continued the climb and flight to Chicago for a safe landing in Chicago 3.5 hours later.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Chicago for 19 hours before resuming service.

The FAA reported the aircraft sustained unknown damage when it received numerous small bird impacts.
