A Jetstar Boeing 787-800, registration VH-VKJ performing flight JQ-1 from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Honolulu,HI (USA), departed Melbourne's runway 16 when a bird struck the aircraft. In the absence of abnormal indications the crew decided to continue the flight for a safe landing in Honolulu about 10 hours later.

A post flight inspection revealed that one of the engines (GEnx) received bird strike damage requiring an engine change.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 10 days later.
