A Germanwings Airbus A319-100, registration D-AKNI performing flight 4U-2033 from Bremen to Stuttgart (Germany), departed Bremen's runway 09 but stopped the climb at 4000 feet due to a bird strike and returned to Bremen for a safe landing on runway 09 about 15 minutes after departure.

A ground observer reported the aircraft sounded strange as it climbed out, a sound similiar to someone pressing the lips together and pressing air out however with the volume of engine sound. The aircraft returned to Bremen for a landing with emergency services on stand by, the thrust reversers were used on roll out.

Eurowings reported the aircraft suffered a bird strike shortly after takeoff and returned to Bremen, the aircraft is being checked by maintenance.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Bremen for 48 hours.
