A Lufthansa Airbus A319-100, registration D-AKNI performing flight LH-2556 from Munich (Germany) to Tbilisi (Georgia), was on approach to Tbilisi when the aircraft suffered a bird strike. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Tbilisi's runway 13R.

The aircraft was unable to perform the return flight LH-2557 on schedule requiring repairs. There are conflicting reports about the bird having been ingested by an engine damaging fan blades or having cracked some part of the fuselage.

The occurrence aircraft was finally able to depart after about 15.5 hours on the ground in Georgia and reached Munich with a delay of 14 hours.
