A Jetblue Airbus A320-200, registration N585JB performing flight B6-275 from Hartford,CT (USA) to San Juan (Puerto Rico) with 142 people on board, was enroute at FL350 about 160nm south of New York when the crew donned their oxygen masks, declared Mayday reporting smell of smoke in cabin with unidentifyable source, possibly coming from an overhead or under a seat. The aircraft turned around and diverted to New York's JFK Airport. Descending towards the airport the crew advised they would be able to vacate the runway, emergency services should meet them upon vacating the runway, then the crew was heard reading part of the checklists erroneously via radio ruling out the avionics bay as source of the smoke. The aircraft landed safely on runway 22L about 37 minutes after turning around and taxied to the terminal with emergency services in trail.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration N657JB reached San Juan with a delay of 3.5 hours.
