A Spirit Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N602NK performing flight NK-647 from Niagara Falls,NY to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA) with 136 passengers and 6 crew, departed Niagara Falls' runway 28R but stopped the climb at 2700 feet. The crew reported they had a fire at the right hand side, #2 engine (V2527) was shut down, 145 souls on board. They wanted to divert to Buffalo,NY (USA). The aircraft positioned for an ILS approach to Buffalo's runway 05 and landed safely about 12 minutes after departure. On final approach the crew reiterated to Buffalo Tower, that they had a report from the cabin of a fire right hand side, however, they thought there was no fire but just an engine failure.

The airline reported most likely a compressor stall had occurred, there was no evidence of fire or damage. Further assessment is underway. The flight carried 136 passengers and 6 crew.
