An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N916NN performing flight AA-88 from Miami,FL to New York La Guardia,NY (USA), departed Miami's runway 08R and was in the initial climb when the crew suspected they had blown a tyre on departure, stopped the climb at 6000 feet, entered a hold for about 80 minutes and returned to Miami for a safe landing on runway 09 about 100 minutes after departure. Emergency services reported the inboard left main tyre was damaged and deflated.

The flight was cancelled.
