A UTAir Boeing 737-500, registration VQ-BPS performing flight UT-559 from Moscow Vnukovo to Makhachkala (Russia), was climbing through FL170 out of Moscow when the crew needed to shut an engine (CFM56) down. The aircraft returned to Moscow Vnukovo for a safe landing about 25 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-500 registration VQ-BAC reached Makhachkala with a delay of 4 hours.
