A Ukraine International Boeing 737-500, registration UR-GAW performing flight PS-305 from Kiev (Ukraine) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was enroute at FL360 when the vibration indications for the left hand engine (CFM56) increased and exceeded 4.0 units. The checklist actions were carried out, the vibrations however did not reduce prompting the crew to shut the engine down about 130nm northeast of Rome over the Adriatic Sea. The aircraft continued to Rome for a safe landing on runway 16R about 35 minutes later.

Ukraine's Ministry of Transport reported the inner #5 bearing or the #4 bearing were destroyed causing the low and high pressure shafts to run untrue causing a significant increase of engine vibrations. The engine had accumulated 46,878 hours in 32,268 cycles, the engine had been overhauled 30 cycles and 70 hours prior to the incident and was due for next workshop visit in 7530 cycles. Human factors in the engine workshop caused the incident.
