An UIA Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration UR-PSL performing flight PS-5265 from Lviv (Ukraine) to Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), was climbing out of Lviv's runway 13 when a bird impacted the left hand engine (CFM56). In the absence of abnormal indications the crew continued the climb and was enroute at FL310 about 60nm southwest of Kiev (Ukraine) when the crew decided to divert to Kiev's Borispol airport due to the bird strike. The aircraft descended to FL150 and entered a hold to burn off fuel. The aircraft landed safely on Borispol's runway 36R about 2.5 hours after the decision to divert and about 3:15 hours after departure.

The airline reported the aircraft received a bird strike into one of the engines, but did not sustain any serious damage.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration UR-GED reached Sharm el Sheikh with a delay of about 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service the following morning after about 12 hours on the ground.
