A Republic Airlines Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N135HQ performing flight YX-4498/AA-4498 from Charlotte,NC (USA) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 69 people on board, was on a downwind for Toronto's runway 06L when the aircraft encountered severe wake turbulence resulting in a number of EICAS messages. The crew regained control, declared emergency due to the EICAS messages and aborted the approach requesting delay vectors to work the related checklists. After verifying the systems the crew commenced another approach, cancelled the emergency on a 2nm final and landed safely on runway 06L.

On May 9th 2016 the Canadian TSB reported a preceding Canada Rouge Boeing 767-300 was 5nm ahead of the Embraer. The crew declared emergency due to several EICAS messages appearing during the turbulence encounter, aborted the approach and requested delay vectors to work the related Quick Reference Handbook procedures and continued for a safe landing.
