Safair B734 at Cape Town and Johannesburg on Mar 27th 2016, damaged tyre on takeoff

A Safair Boeing 737-400, registration ZS-JRL performing flight FA-102 from Cape Town to Johannesburg (South Africa), departed Cape Town's runway 01 but damaged a tyre on departure. The aircraft continued to Johannesburg, performed a low approach to Johannesburg to have the tyres inspected from the ground. The aircraft subsequently positioned for a safe landing.

Passengers reported that the last few seconds of the takeoff run at Cape Town were very rough with severe vibrations. Upon approach to Johannesburg the crew announced there may be a problem with the landing gear, the aircraft performed a fly by, the first officer subsequently kneeled down in the cabin to inspect something on or in the floor, then indicated they were now going to land. The landing roll was again very rough.

The airline reported the tread of a right main tyre had separated from the tyre, the tyre remained inflated however.
