The return flight LX-1193 was cancelled.
A passenger reported the captain announced a malfunction of the flaps, they'd need to re-compute the performance and landing distance. Some time later the captain announced that the runway was long enough and they would now commence a new approach. The aircraft landed successfully, during roll out and taxiing off the runway the passenger noticed that snow ploughs were departing the runway area, quite obviously there had been a snow removal just prior to their landing.
The airline told Austrianwings that the crew received a "Flaps Power Caution Light" and went around preparing for a new approach with reduced flaps setting and higher than normal speed and longer than usual roll out. Emergency services would not have been needed from the view of the airline, however, priority is safety first.
The occurrence aircraft was able to resume service 49 hours after landing but suffered another similiar occurrence on the next flight, see Incident: Austrian DH8D at Zurich on Jan 17th 2016, stuck flaps.
