An Air Transat Boeing 737-800, registration C-GTQB performing flight TS-415 from Cancun (Mexico) to Montreal,QC (Canada), was enroute at FL370 about 170nm south of Charlotte,NC (USA) when the crew initiated a rapid descent to FL300, then to FL250, the passenger oxygen masks deployed. The crew continued the flight to Montreal at FL250, the passengers were able to remove the oxygen masks. The aircraft landed safely at the destination about 2 hours after leaving FL370.

Passengers reported there was a bang followed by a rush of cold air, the oxygen masks came down and the aircraft began to descend.

The airline confirmed the incident and reported the crew was able to quickly regain control of cabin pressure. The cause of the occurrence is being investigated.

On Jan 26th 2016 the Canadian TSB reported that the crew noticed a pressure differential of 8.9psi indicated by the pressurization system and worked the related checklists. While working the items of the checklist the cabin pressure dropped rapidly and the passenger oxygen masks were released. The crew initiated an emergency descent, but regained control of the cabin pressure and stopped the descent initially at FL300, then FL250. The crew continued to destination. Maintenance replaced both cabin pressure controllers and the outflow valve actuator.
