An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N845NN performing flight AA-1410 from New York La Guardia,NY to Miami,FL (USA), was enroute at FL340 about 170nm northnortheast of Miami about 40 minutes prior to landing around 15:45Z, the fasten seat belt signs were illuminated, when the aircraft encountered brief but severe turbulence causing minor injuries to 5 passengers and a broken nose to a flight attendant. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Miami's runway 26L about 40 minutes later.

The airline reported briefly encountered severe turbulence about 40 minutes prior to landing, the fasten seat belt signs were illuminated at that time. Five passengers were assessed by paramedics and discharged, a flight attendant was taken to a hospital.
