A Commutair de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of United, registration N857CA performing flight UA-3585 from Rochester,NY to Washington Dulles,DC (USA) with 50 passengers and 3 crew, was in the initial climb out of runway 22 when the crew declared emergency reporting they had lost their left hand engine (PW123) and levelled off at 2500 feet. The propeller and engine was secured and the aircraft landed safely back on runway 04 about 20 minutes after departure.

A replacement Dash 8-300 registration N837CA reached Washington with a delay of 3.5 hours.
