A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration JA826J performing flight JL-759 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) with 194 people on board, was enroute at FL380 about 400nm southwest of Osaka (Japan) when the crew noticed decreasing oil quantity on the left hand engine (GEnx) and decided to divert to Osaka's Kansai Airport. The crew descended the aircraft to FL230, but on the way to Osaka needed to shut the engine down. The aircraft landed safely on Kansai Airport's runway 06L about 80 minutes after the decision to divert.

A replacement Boeing 787-800 registration JA821J is estimated to reach Ho Chi Minh City with a delay of abou 4 hours.
