A United Airlines Boeing 747-400, registration N197UA performing flight UA-903 from San Francisco,CA (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), departed San Francisco's runway 28L and was climbing through FL200 when the crew stopped the climb reporting an engine (PW4056) failure, dumped fuel, positioned for the approach advising sooner is good and landed safely on San Francisco's runway 28R about 100 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported there was a loud bang from one of the engines, the aircraft subsequently dumped fuel and returned to San Francisco. A replacement aircraft delivered them to Frankfurt with a delay of 5 hours.

A replacement Boeing 747-400 registration N178UA reached Frankfurt with a delay of 5 hours.
