An Air France Airbus A330-200, registration F-GZCE performing flight AF-445 (dep Aug 23rd) from Rio de Janeiro,RJ (Brazil) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) with 202 passengers and 10 crew, was enroute at FL350 over the Atlantic Ocean about 160nm east of Recife,PE (Brazil) when the crew decided to divert to Recife due to a burning odour on board. ATC queried whether the crew would carry out an emergency evacuation, the crew indicated they wanted to keep the passengers on board. The aircraft landed safely on Recife's runway 18 about 30 minutes later.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 3.5 hours while maintenance identified the source of the burning odour as two overheated inflight entertainment systems in the economy class and disconnected those units. The aircraft departed Recife afterwards and reached Paris with a delay of about 4 hours.

On Aug 26th 2015 the airline told The Aviation Herald: "Air France confirms that the crew of flight AF445 flying on August 23, 2015 from Rio de Janeiro (GIG) Paris (CDG) decided, as a precautionary measure and in accordance with procedures, to make a technical stop at Recife (REC) due to a slight burning smell. The aircraft landed normally at 22.08, local time. Flight safety is Air France priority and crew are trained for such situation. Technical checks have been made, showing the overhereat of 2 Inflight Entertainment systems located on 2 Economy seats. After their disconnection, the aircraft was ready to resume its journey towards Paris CDG where it landed at 15.21."
