Emirates B773 at Colombo on Jul 30th 2015, engine shut down in flight

An Emirates Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EMO performing flight EK-655 from Colombo (Sri Lanka) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), departed Colombo's runway 22 when the right hand engine (Trent 895) needed to be shut down. The crew levelled off at 3000 feet, subsequently climbed the aircraft to 6000 feet and entered a hold to dump fuel and work checklists. The aircraft landed safely back on Colombo's runway 22 about 40 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported there had been no noise, no smells and no other abnormal observation until the crew announced the right hand engine had been shut down. The passengers were taken to hotels over night.

A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration A6-EBY reached Dubai with a delay of 16 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Colombo 50 hours after landing back.
