Monarch A321 over Croatia on Jul 1st 2015, intercepted by fighter aircraft

A Monarch Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration G-OZBI performing flight ZB-714 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Larnaca (Cyprus), was enroute at FL330 over Austria, when the aircraft was handed off to Slovenia, but did not report on Slovenia's frequencies. A pair of Croatian MIG21 fighter aircraft was dispatched by NATO headquarters to intercept and identify the aircraft at the Slovenian/Croatian border, the Monarch A321 was identified, and as it continued to follow its flightplan, and accompanied to the Croatian/Bosnian-Herzegovinian border. The A321 later, already in Serbia's Airspace, climbed to FL350 and continued the flight to Larnaca for a safe landing without further incident.

Croatia's Ministry of Defense reported that two Croatian Airforce MIG21s were dispatched on request by NATO headquarters to intercept and identify an aircraft that did not communicate with ATC over Slovenia. The aircraft was identified as a Monarch A321 and accompanied to the border with Bosnia-Herzegovina as the aircraft complied with the flight plan.
