An Envoy Embraer ERJ-145, registration N658AE performing flight MQ-3276 from Laredo,TX to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 43 passengers and 3 crew, was climbing out of Laredo when the crew stopped the climb at FL250 about 50nm southwest of San Antonio,TX (USA) reporting smoke in the cabin and decided to divert to San Antonio for a safe landing on runway 12R about 25 minutes later.

Passengers reported there was a strange noise first then smoke entered the cabin just when the flight attendant was about to start beverage service.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in San Antonio for 27 hours, then positioned to Dallas Ft. Worth and resumed service.
