An Ural Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration VQ-BOB performing flight U6-514 from Simferopol (Ukraine) to St. Petersburg (Russia), was enroute at FL380 about 75nm north of Rostov on Don (Russia) when the crew initiated an emergency descent to FL100 (average rate of descent 4000fpm) due to the loss of cabin pressure, the passengers oxygen masks were released. The aircraft continued in the general direction of St. Petersburg, after about 20 minutes the crew was able to climb the aircraft to FL200 and divert to Moscow's Domodedovo Airport for a safe landing about 80 minutes after leaving FL380.

A replacement A321-200 registration VQ-BOF reached St. Petersburg with a delay of 7.5 hours.

A passenger reported the occurrence aircraft had undergone maintenance with the passengers already boarded and departed Simeferopol with a delay of nearly 3 hours. Enroute the aircraft encountered a strong bump immediately followed by pressure on the ears and the release of the oxygen masks, the aircraft settled in a steep descent. After the aircraft levelled off the captain announced they had suffered the loss of cabin pressure and had descended to safe altitude and reduced speed, they were now diverting to Moscow Domodedovo.
