A Thomas Cook Airbus A330-200, registration OY-VKF performing flight MT-848 from Manchester,EN (UK) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was enroute at FL360 about 120nm west of Shannon (Ireland) about to enter the Oceanic Crossing, when the crew requested to return to Manchester reporting they needed maintenance for a "technical issue". The aircraft landed safely back on Manchester's runway 23R about one hour later.

A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration G-MDBD positioned from Glasgow,SC (UK) to Manchester and is currently estimated to reach New York with a delay of 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft was able to depart Manchester about 9 hours after landing and positioned to Glasgow.

A passenger reported the crew announced a "technical fault" as reason for their return to Manchester, it then emerged there were "two engineering faults".
