A Thomas Cook Airbus A330-200, registration OY-VKF performing flight MT-152 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Cancun (Mexico), was enroute at FL400 over the Atlantic Ocean about half way between Bermuda and Bahamas, when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing severe injuries to one passenger and minor injuries to 6 other passengers. The aircraft continued to Cancun for a safe landing about 2.5 hours later.

The FAA reported one passenger received serious, 6 other passengers minor injuries when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence while enroute at FL390 (editorial note: radar/FAA ASDI data never show the aircraft at FL390 except during climb to FL400/descent from FL400) over the Atlantic Ocean.

The aircraft departed Cancun for the return flight on schedule.
