A Jet2.com Boeing 737-800, registration G-GDFF performing flight LS-601 from East Midlands,EN (UK) to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain), had been enroute at FL310 and had just started the initial descent towards Palma Mallorca when the aircraft transponded the squawk for unlawful interference for about 3 minutes before the transponder was set back to the original squawk. Air Traffic Control in Palma Mallorca, following procedures, inquired with the crew whether this had been intentional, which the crew replied to in the affirmative, prompting Authorities in Palma Mallorca to prepare for the arrival of a hijacked aircraft and activate their crisis center. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Palma's runway 24L about 16 minutes later and was directed to taxi to a remote parking stand, where security forces surrounded the aircraft. Only after police entered the aircraft it became clear that no unlawful interference had taken place and there had been miscommunication surrounding the erroneous transponder squawk.

The aircraft remained on the ground for 6 hours before departing for the return flight LS-602, which reached East Midlands with a delay of 3 hours.
