A Shaheen Air Boeing 737-400, registration AP-BJT performing flight NL-122 from Islamabad to Karachi (Pakistan) with 174 people on board, was climbing out of Islamabad's runway 30 when the crew received a fire indication for the left hand engine and worked the engine fire drill. The aircraft levelled off at 3500 feet and returned to Islamabad for a safe landing on runway 30 about 10 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway and was shut down. Following inspection by emergency services the aircraft was towed to the apron.

Pakistan's CAA confirmed the crew received a left engine fire indication, the incident is being investigated.

On Jun 16th 2015 the NTSB citing Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority reported, that the aircraft was climbing through 3200 feet MSL when the left hand engine emitted a loud bang and the crew observed high EGTs out of permitted range. The engine was shut down and the aircraft returned to Islamabad for a safe landing. Pakistan's CAA is investigating the occurrence rated an incident.
